Sonix introduces new series of SN8F5900 MCUs for healthcare applications

Aiming for medical and healthcare markets, Sonix announced the launch of SN8F5900 family of high integration 8051 flash type MCUs which are designed for blood pressure monitor, body fat scales, blood glucose monitors, ear thermometers, infrared temperature devices and other healthcare applications. The SN8F5900 MCU family includes SN8F5909, SN8F5919 and SN8F5939 three series. Among them, the chip launched first was SN8F5909 and it already adopted by European, Japanese and USA healthcare brands with good reputation for its high integration, high precision and excellent reliability features. Now Sonix is going to release the new series of SN8F5919 and SN8F5939 which provide different ROM / RAM density and integrate more peripheral resources. With these new products, Sonix can offer completed healthcare product portfolio with good extension to satisfy customers’ diverse needs.

The SN8F5909 series is designed for blood pressure monitors, ear thermometer products, its major features including:
(1)To equip with 8051 MCU core, 64KB Flash Memory, standard Keil C compiler development environment, and built-in 32-bit multiplier…, together improves the IC’s operation performance and shortened product development time.
(2)To built-in high-precision AFE (Analog Front End) circuit, integrated OPA operational amplifier, Programmable-Gain Instrument Amplifier and 24-Bit high-precision ADC with these features, the blood pressure monitor design requirements such as constant current source, pressure small signal amplification filter and analog digital conversion, to be achieved by the IC internal functions, without additional components. It can significantly reduce the development costs and shorten the production lead time.
(3)To built-in power management circuit Charge Pump Regulator with operating voltage range up to 5.5V ~ 2.0V, especially for wrist-type blood pressure monitor products, there is no additional usage of DC / DC booster IC components. That enables power supply design and LCD display planning with more flexibility. LCD design equipped with capacitive driver which makes panel display effect better, and support up to 252 points output.
(4)To equip with UART, SPI, I2C, BLE, WiFi…, a wide range of communication interfaces which enable customers to develop value-added functions and IOT applications for medical product.
The upcoming SN8F5919 series is dedicated for body fat scale application. The series built in BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) and use new AC signal measurement technology to measure body fat information and other health data. It not only can improve the accuracy but also reduce the number of peripheral components to shorten customers’ development time and costs. It is the most cost-effective solution. Another new SN8F5939 series which is based on the superior features of the SN8P5909, also increases the memory capacity (Flash 128KB, RAM 6KB) to fulfill the needs of customers with more sets of memory functions. Moreover, the series also embedded 12-bit SAR ADCs and 12 -Bit DAC functions, which can be applied to both blood glucose monitors and high-end blood pressure monitor products. It is the most versatile series of Sonix’s medical solutions.

The entry barrier of electronic medical products is high. It needs to meet the national medical standards and pass rigorous certification, so product development time is long. In the past, the major key components and the main chip supplier are all dominated by international companies. Sonix is the first Taiwan IC design company which can provide solutions with high integration and precision capabilities. Sonix’s blood pressure monitor ICs already shipped more tens of millions pieces for years. Now Sonix introduces two new series of SN5900 solutions together with the previous SN5909. All of these products are most competitive solutions and optimization options for customers.
