Sonix Technology SN32 Series Achieves UL/IEC 60730-1 Class B Software Certification

Sonix Technology, a leading microcontroller manufacturer, announces that its SN32 series has successfully passed UL/IEC 60730-1 Class B software certification.
The IEC 60730 standard, established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), outlines safety testing and diagnostic methods for embedded control hardware and software in household appliances to ensure safe operation, immediate detection, and mitigation of abnormalities to prevent potential hazards. The standard covers mechanical, electrical, electronic, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and abnormal operation aspects, with three safety levels based on application risk:
Class A: Control functions not related to equipment safety (e.g., temperature/humidity control, lighting control).
Class B: Prevents unsafe states in controlled equipment (e.g., washing machines, refrigerators).
Class C: Designed for high-risk applications to prevent special hazards (e.g., automatic burners, gas dryers).

Most household appliances, particularly white goods, must comply with Class B to ensure user safety. As a leader in the microcontroller industry, Sonix Technology 32-bit Cortex™-M0-based SN32 series
has achieved UL/IEC 60730-1 Class B software safety certification through its independently developed Self-Test Library. This library supports multiple SN32 series models, including SN32F400, SN32F800, SN32F790/780, SN32F760/750, SN32F700B, and SN32F700, covering self-test functions for CPU registers, system clock, program flow, ROM, and SRAM, meeting the requirements of IEC 60730-1 Annex H.
The modular Self-Test Library enables customers to seamlessly integrate it into existing development workflows without needing to develop Class B self-test programs, significantly reducing development time and certification risks.

For motor control applications, Sonix Technology has also introduced a dedicated Motor Safety Function Library, also certified under UL/IEC 60730-1 Class B, supporting the SN32F400 and SN32F800 series. In addition to standard MCU self-test functions, this library enhances real-time safety mechanisms for motor drive applications, enabling immediate detection and response to abnormalities, thereby improving overall system reliability and safety. The Motor Safety Function Library is also provided in a modular format, helping customers accelerate product development and certification while reducing overall development and certification costs.

Sonix Technology specializes in 32-bit microcontroller development, meticulously managing design, R&D, production, and software/firmware development to provide customers with robust solutions, shorten product development timelines, and help create added value. Sonix will continue to collaborate with customers to advance both product functionality and safety, offering comprehensive hardware and software integration solutions to help partners quickly meet market demands and international safety standards.
